Chakras

Chakra means ‘Wheel’ in Sanskrit. It is a circular shaped figure that is used to depict cycles. But in the human body there are chakras which are the hubs of energy. They are mainly responsible to absorb energy and distribute it to all parts of the body. Though not much about the chakras is known, whatever is quoted in the Upanishads have been taken into consideration for studies of Indian medicine. They are also believed as the main conviction of Yoga.

The chakras function as the energy reservoirs where the energy drawn from cosmos is stored. They can also be called as energy centers of the human body. Their basic function is to maintain the balance in the humans and to disperse the cosmic energy equally and maintain equilibrium.
The chakras are related to water, earth, mind, atmosphere and air. They mean liquid, solid, conscious, atmospheric and airy elements. As per the puranas and vedic descriptions there are 88,000 chakras in a normal human body. They are of different sizes located in different parts of the body. Out of all 7 chakras are the major ones which play very main role in distributing energy.

The chakras are not corporeal. They are just a part of our consciousness which are closely related to nervous and the endocrine system. The seven chakras are situated down the central vertical point of our spinal cord. One of their edges is joined together which opens up towards the front part of the body. In other words it seems to be like a flower with petals facing the front part. All these chakras are invariably rotating to attract, produce and release energy.
Out of the seven chakras six are arranged one above the other from the middle forehead to the lower spine. The seventh one is considered as invisible or ahead of any body part. All the chakras work in accordance with each other to dissipate energy equally throughout the body. Chakras differ in size in different bodies.

The history of the chakras goes back to the middle age where writing had not yet developed. People believe that the knowledge about the chakras have been passed from one generation to the other just by the word of mouth. When writing was developed whatever one knew about the chakras was written and preserved for the future generation.
The normal size of a chakra is around 2 inches for underdeveloped or less grown bodies. As and when the body gains energy and wisdom the chakras grow in diameter. They look like bright sun with a depressed center and wide corners. The more wisdom and energy the body gains, the more the size of chakras.

The chakras can be classified into two shapes wheel and flower. The wheel has several spikes in it to show the segments of energy whereas the flower converge the energy in the shape of petals. All these chakras work for the overall wellness and goodness of the body, mind and spirit.

The chakras are very tactically positioned in the body. Few of them are located all along the spine and the lower spine whereas few of them which are considered to be the holiest of all are positioned in between the tip of the spine and the top of the head. They rule the all the tasks performed by the body in and around the spine.

The presence of chakras is neither a myth nor a false belief. Each chakra has different names and colors. Starting from the bottommost one which is Root Chakra is represented by red color. It means grounding. Sacral or Navel Chakra which represents creativity is signified by orange color. The third one is Solar Plexus Chakra. It is associated with emotions and is indicated by yellow color. The fourth chakra is Heart Chakra which stands for green color. It signifies love. The fifth one being Throat Chakra is connected to blue color. It stands for communication. The sixth one is Brow Chakra which is represented by Indigo. It is located in the brain and is a symbol for spirituality. The seventh one is the Crown Chakra (present in the tip of the head) represented by violet color. It stands for wisdom, balance, oneness, God and infinity.

The chakras are closely related to the emotions, feelings and stress-level. When any of the body part is tensed and stressed the chakra stops functioning. The more the tension increases the less the possibility of chakra’s functioning. In such cases Life energy is released through any of the soft healing techniques.

To keep the chakras working on one has to maintain few aspects of his or her life. Maintain a healthy diet and proper sleep pattern, exercise the body regularly and involve in some holistic practice. A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. So if the body is fit the mind would automatically stay healthy.
